“Eye of the Tiger” Published
We invite you to read one of our articles (Becoming the “Eye of the Tiger”) published this week in Workforce Mangement, an on-line business magazine. The article focuses on the intersection of new technology, social networks and Millennials in the workplace:
“Engagement in participatory networks is clearly practiced by the new generation of young workers, who are armed with unprecedented access to broadband and mobile technologies and who intuitively understand the power of these technologies.”
This is a topic that will continue to challenge us to understand how the workplace will change.

It could be that Millenials instinctively understand what previous generations have had difficulty grasping — that we is smarter than me…

It could well be that Millennials just “know” the power of the collective. It may also be that trust is operating here. I like to think that Millennials have a higher level of trust, mostly in each other. Trust may emerge as a result of the near continuous validation and affirmation inherent in participation in a network.
Teens seem to using these social spaces to do what teens have always done — try on a identity and see if it works. Beyond the teen years, continued participation in virtual public spaces seems to be about openness and connection, and this in turn may promote a greater level of trust in those who share this experience.
How might this play out in the workplace? Perhaps a more natural willingness to collaborate, which by definition means sharing information. Trust is a pre-condition for sharing information and therefore is a precondition for true collaboration.
